Jammu and Kashmir Travel Guide & Essential Information

The weather in Kashmir is beautifully distinct. Be sure to pack your bags according to the season you intend to travel!

Best Time to Visit

  • Spring & Summer (March - August): The best time for sightseeing. Spring (March to early May) sees temperatures from 6°C to 23°C and features the famous Tulip Festival. Summer ranges from 25°C to 35°C, offering a perfect escape from city heat.
  • Autumn (September - November): The Chinar trees turn a stunning golden-orange. Temperatures cool down to 10°C to 23°C.
  • Winter (December - March): Perfect for honeymooners and snow-lovers. Winter enhances the natural beauty of Kashmir, turning Gulmarg into a premium skiing destination. Carry heavy woolens!

How to Get There

  • By Air: The most convenient way from Mumbai or Delhi is flying directly into Srinagar International Airport (SXR). Jammu and Leh also have domestic airports.
  • By Train: The nearest major railway station is Jammu Tawi (305 km from Srinagar) or Udhampur. The new Vande Bharat trains to Katra have made the journey from Delhi incredibly fast.
  • By Road: National Highway 44 (formerly NH 1A) connects Jammu to Srinagar. The roads are well maintained and offer a highly scenic, albeit long, drive.
