Uttarakhand

According to Hindu mythology the Gods and Goddesses have inhabited hills and mountains and rivers for centuries, hence Uttarakhand has invariable link to the legends. In the ancient texts there has been reference to Kedarkhand and Kurmanchal which is todays Garhwal and Kumaon. Garhwal and Kumaon became part of the British India by the end of the 19th Century. During the last two decades there has been demands of different hill station distinct from the plains of Uttar Pradesh and it resulted in the formation of Uttarakhand on November 9, 2000.
