Uttarakhand is a year round destination, many of the regions popular attractions are located in the cool area of the terai and you can even visit it during summers because it never gets too hot even then. Uttarakhand has pleasant temperature during summers which makes it best time to visit the region. However monsoons are a little hard in Uttarakhand, in the hilly regions there are landslide hence it’s advisable to avoid going there in monsoons. Post monsoons the weather is beautiful so you can visit between September to November.

As Uttarakhand lies in the mountains the railway network is meagre. Main railway junctions for Uttarakhand are Dehradun, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Nainital, Kotdwar, Kathgodam, Pauri and Udham Singh.

By Road
Technically entire Uttarakhand is connected via road to the rest of North India, however one should keep in mind these are hilly terrains hence the state of road is very neglected. There are frequent incidences of landslides especially in the remote areas.

According to Hindu mythology the Gods and Goddesses have inhabited hills and mountains and rivers for centuries, hence Uttarakhand has invariable link to the legends. In the ancient texts there has been reference to Kedarkhand and Kurmanchal which is todays Garhwal and Kumaon. Garhwal and Kumaon became part of the British India by the end of the 19th Century. During the last two decades there has been demands of different hill station distinct from the plains of Uttar Pradesh and it resulted in the formation of Uttarakhand on November 9, 2000.

Corbett National Park
Corbett National Park is located at the foothills of Kumaon Himalayas, it was established by the efforts of conservationist Jim Corbett in 1936 it is stretched over 520 sq km with a core area of 330 sq km. Generally during monsoon Corbett National Park is out of bounds between June 16th till 14th October and reopens after monsoons. The best time to visit is between January and mid-June. If you want to see tiger come out to quench his thirst Summer is the best time for it.

Dehradun
The relaxed lifestyle of Dehradun makes it a perfect retirement hill station. Dehradun is the educational hub with over 300 schools including the famed Doon School, Welham Girls School and Welham Boys School and St. Joseph's Academy, Dehradun. While in Dehradun visit the Victorian clock tower. There is a botanical garden in the FRI campus which was built in 1914 where you will find huge collection of literary resources on forestry.

Mussoorie
Located at the heights of over 2000 meters with a backdrop of Himalayas Mussoorie is a colonial hill station with some superb view of peaks. A visit to Mall road is a must while your stay in Mussoorie. There is a Tibetan settlement in Mussorie called as Happy Valley. Best time to visit Mussoorie is between March and June, this is also the most crowded season as tourist across the nation travel to Mussoorie to take a pleasant break from summers. It gets fairly cold between September to November so do take extra clothes if you planning to visit during this period; and if you decide to visit in the winters you might witness a fair amount of snowfall which also attracts number of tourists.

Nainital
Nainital is one of the oldest and most famous hillstation of the country it has been named after the legendary and beautiful Naini Lake which is in the shape of an eye. There are number of activities that are conducted in and around Naini Lake. March to June and September to October is the best time to visit Nainital. During summers the town gets very crowded due to tourist rush who are trying the escape the hot summer of the plains. You should avoid visiting Nainital during monsoon as the rains come pretty heavily leaving the town somewhat damper. The Autumn Festival is the annual festival of Nainital which is held every year in October.
