Himachal Travel Guide & Essential Information

Himachal experiences distinct seasons. The winters are very chill with heavy snowfall in higher altitudes, while summers are pleasantly warm and offer a perfect escape from city heat.

Best Time to Visit

  • Summer (March - June): The best time for sightseeing, trekking, and escaping the heat of the plains. Peak family vacation season.
  • Winter (Dec - Feb): Ideal for honeymooners and tourists who want to experience live snowfall and skiing in places like Solang Valley.
  • Monsoon (July - Sept): Travel is generally avoided during heavy monsoons due to landslides, though the valleys look incredibly lush.

How to Get There

  • By Air: There are 3 domestic airports in Himachal: Jubbarhatti (Shimla), Bhuntar (Kullu/Manali), and Gaggal (Dharamshala), which are connected to Delhi and Chandigarh.
  • By Train: The UNESCO World Heritage Kalka-Shimla Toy Train is a magical way to enter the state. For fast transit, take the Vande Bharat Express from New Delhi to Chandigarh or Una, and drive up from there.
